    Default gargoyle

    Hi,
Just finished this piece and thought I would offer it up for comment.

The wood is peppercorn and finished with white shellac and wax from Ubueat.

    hi Terry

just a small hijack on your theard
have been reading a few posts about when people put thing on the site to show ,is it ok to say what you think or should we always be nice and say thing like

You did ask for comments so like myself l was hopeing when others talk about the carveing feeling are not hurt

over all its a good carveing, l had a vision of a gargoyle as some thing that sat on the roof with wings with a animal head say a monkey, dog, bear
What l would class your carveing is a mask
around the ears and top of the head looks great love the chisel look of it
would have like to see a nose
also some fang teeth would have made is less cuddly looking
I had to go back to the photo and check it out again one of the eyes had a crack in it so did you match the other eye so they looked the same, l have been working hard to get eyes better myself but l would have like it better without the half moon .Also it was a bit hard to pick up in the photo there there holes in the ears for earings ,l liked that part it would so cool to keep makeing diffrent earing and change them ever so ofen ,don't tell anybody that you have but when they relise that something is diffrent it keeps it new and makes it fun

ok that is my comments Terry you are v/good carver and l hope you take my comment in the Spirit they were given

so here is your thumbs up good work
smile and the world will smile with you

    good one schaf,

I'm with spirit here, even though comments are asked for I'm never quite sure if they are really wanted,
    anyways, my two bobs worth,
I like it, I also think "mask" probably is more descriptive, (gargoyle mask perhaps)
I like the folds in the ears and the scalloped pattern at the top of the head,
the poking tongue would have taken some time
the (goat eye) pupils work for me as well,
my only suggestion would be that I think the piece could be enhanced a bit with some defining chisel or knife work around some of the features,
just to crisp them up a bit,
    well done

    Question Gargoyle

I like it even though it looks too friendly to be a gargoyle.

    Thanks guys,
When I post a photo of my work, either a carving or a pen, although it is nice to hear nice, nice and good ,good, what I am looking for is solid constructive criticism whether it is good or bad. Or ,if you do not like it just say so, I will appreciate that also.

Thanks to both Spirit and Underfoot, for your comments ,observations and advice. I have appreciated it and taken on board every word.

Now,after leaving myself open with those words, don't go to hard on me.

    Cheers
    terry
