Golf Balls
Hi Guys,
A collection of my golf balls. Or what is left, I have sold about 12 so far.
They are so quick and easy to carve.
Thanks Whittling for the introduction to them.
Ops, ignore the two wooden heads.
Regards
Terry

Quite a motley crew you've got there. Delighted that you're finding success with them. What are you asking for them out of curiosity? Interesting use of the empty half shell. I used the first dozen to line an old egg container and mix paint in em. The rest I threw away. Trust you to come up with a use for them...

G'day whittling,
calling $15 but going to $20. They only want to buy the bottle stoppers the kits and at just over $6 delivered is just not enough.
But, I enjoy carving them, they are quick, easy and good practice and I am not wasteing good wood.
Anyone who is interested in this type of carving, then have a look at the video's by this guy. OutWestWoodCarving
happy carving

I still believe that you are undervaluing your talent, Terry and Doug. The daily bread is important, maybe even essential, but surely you could set aside a small portion of your time to make a few "serious" pieces, if nothing else to leave them for posterity if you do not want to try and crack the gallery/commission market.

Hi F&E,
Thanks for the push along. Yes, I also do the serious stuff, but only sell through my local gallery. Maybe it is time to branch out further afield.
Check out my two signature sites and have a look.
Happy carving

Hi Frank,
Just yesterday I put 6 sticks into the Hahndorf gallery to replace the ones they sold over the last couple of months which is about a 'serious' as my talent gets for the moment.
I enjoy the golfballs. They are similar in their function to the plastercine models that Undi always recommends in that they provide a cheap medium in which to practice and develop ideas without committing to wood. I consider what I've learned about carving expression while working on these guys to be invaluable.
They have the added benefit of being 'saleable' when your done practicing.

My pleasure. It will be a nice memory for me when you become world famous.
I did check out your blog and you have indeed taken a step forward. The indian face is superb as usual, but, at least in the photo, the composition looks too "flat" to me. If the Punch had the signature "Ian Norbury" under it, it would sell for a few grand... but you will not get them unless you push it higher in the gallery world.
I noticed that we are the same age, which could be a limiting factor... let's just think that we are at just half our potential life span and plan for the next 30 years of creative work. You are a bit behind with your ambitions, Doug, but you have more time to catch up...

By crickey, I hope that you are right.
I would enjoy carving away for the next 30 years ,would't that be great fun. I do take the point about going out of the comfort zone.
Doug congratulations on the sticks.

For sure envelope-pushing and getting out of one's comfort zone is a good thing. But I also believe that it has to be balanced with practicality... particularly if you are relient, even partially, on the income 'low brow' work generates.
Having said that, I try to give every piece I do some sort of 'special' attention, even if its somthing I've done before. I've carved hundreds of golf balls, hundreds of sticks etc... but I can't recall ANY two of them being the same. Every time I pick up a knife I try for some new element. The only exception to this is a commission piece. In that case you give the customer what he/she asks for regardless of how much (or little) it stretches you.
