heads up, new gadget
I found this thing (spiral saw) at aldi some time ago at $50,
nobody seems to have bought them, so they're on spesh for $24.
I bought one to try.
600w, variable speed 10- 30 000 rpm, looks like a small trim router,
I tried it with a 1/4 shank burr to test it, it seems to work ok
it seems to do the same job as my $350 die grinder and I really like the (pull back) switch set up ( if you need to stop it quickly, pull it backwards and your belly will switch it off
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

I'd give it a go. 6oo watts is good. It only takes 1/4 bits I guess. I found a couple of good contour wheels here - cheap and reliable postage to OZ:

Would have loved to try it but, as usual, anything interesting does not happen in Adelaide. Unless you like fast cars or pop music.

...and if it turns out to be no good, at least with Aldi you can return it within a couple of weeks for a refund.

Weird - not that many Aldi stores around, but here in NSW Southern Highlands we have one in Bowral and a new one just opened up 5 mins away in Mittagong.....
No one seems to know about the new store yet, which is great for getting those Thursday specials which always seem to sell out so quickly.
To anyone who doesn't know, most of the hardware, tools, electrical goods, etc. at Aldi only come in once or twice a year; each store gets a certain quantity, and when they are gone you just have to wait for the item to come around again next time. If you want a heads up on the upcoming specials for each Thursday, go to their webpage and subscribe to get the list of Special Buys (as they call them) emailed to you each week before the stuff arrives in-store. Saves lobbing in every Thursday morning just on the off chance that there might be something good..

Ok, I'm happy to cover you and sort out the details later, but now we have to find somebody kind enough to look again for them, find at least 2 more, buy and send them here.
I am happy to transfer the money in advance. Underfoot? Tea Lady? Cliff?
At the worse, Whittling, we could probably get something similar here at full price. It would only cost us marginally more and we would have a warranty.

You might be waiting a while for the Aldi one. I think it was in the stores a few months ago, so its very unlikely that there will be any still in stores anywhere (Aldi normally drop the price to clear any 'leftovers' within a couple of weeks).
I'll take a look in our local Aldi today, but don't hold out much hope.
If its been and gone, you'll be waiting probably 6-9 months for them to come around again.
The 'Special Buys' for this week is mainly baby gear and toys !! The cheap power tools thing only happens a couple of times a year.
