    The link to the globe works for me. It isn't a clear glass ball, it is a gemstone globe (looks rather nice too I thought). So I would go with a stopped post hole drilled in the bottom and dowel it onto the cane, using epoxy glue (I use Techniglue). I've done this with miniature pool balls (from keyrings) on vice handles in my workshop and it worked well. Drill the hole in the bottom with a drill press to fit the dowel. Drill the hole in the cane, epoxy together. Voila.

    Now that was a wake up. I did not notice the link and was under the impression it was a clear ball, like the magician in TL's post, changes the whole problem.
