Introducing myself
G'day
I'm a recent subscriber and looking forward to learning and sharing with the members of this forum. My name is John but I answer just as readily to my nickname of Blinky Bill. I like to imagine that I'm a woodcarver but I am well aware that I have much to learn. I have been destroying wood since I was about 10 (had to have a reason for carrying a sharp pocket knife) but have never taken formal classes, and have relied on such books and magazines as I could beg, buy or borrow. My carving has been on and (mostly off> until retirement, but now I am getting back to it and enjoying it greatly. I carve "in the round" muck around with miniatures, and occasionally build ships in bottles, I've recently begun carving spirit faces in walking sticks whick I have made and find a great deal of satisfaction in them as do the friends that have received them. I don't have much to show as most items are given as gifts to friends and family, but I will try and upload some snaps of recent stuff that is still around. Comments and or criticism will be appreciated, just no laughing out loud ok?
One thing I would like to say, is that I am also a subscriber to http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/ and think that the place at the front of the site especially for new members to introduce themselves is a great idea and would be worth considering for this site as well ???
Regards BB.

G'day again,
Here are 2 mini rocking horses I made for a friend in Canada to put in the 2 dollhouses that she made for her grandaughters.
that's a 5c. piece
The horse was made from a magazine pattern, originally named "Dynamite" she was renamed "Jesse" and given to a mate who owns a horse of that name
The wood spirit is in a 3inch diametre piece of silver birch and was my first attempt.....inspired by the excellent tutorial starring Collin Partridge in Woodcarving Illustrated...
I am a collector, and have a collection of miniature books....so naturally I needed somewhere to keep them. Built an 18 inch square "library to hold them, it closes like a small suit case, then I found that I needed furniture and other items to dress the library up a bit. Of course a library needs a reader.................
