The journey
After the recent somewhat monotonous task of using of 90 and 45 degree angles it's time to take another less predictive path. A path which feels more comfortable to me...the road less travelled. It starts with a rough idea traced from something I've done before as a guide to proportions which may or may not be followed. Let's see where this takes us...

Sometimes you just have to work with what you have. Not ideal, end grain to end grain, but I needed to join a bend in the end...

Epoxy glued a decent screw in...

...and grinded off the head...

...then screwed on the bend

I'm not sure they'll all make it through some of the processes to come but at least they'll get a start.

Just a few forks being tuned up. Not completely happy with all of them but did some de-barking anyway in some spare time. Lately I've found the one's I want difficult to find, forks ain't forks you know The wood is Coastal Tea Tree Leptospermum laevigatum

Grabbed some time to do some rough shaping of one of the stems and further refinement of some forks.

Here's a final rough out of the heads to the stems. I need the forks done now to determine the final shape and fit of the head. May have to ditch the forks I have, either that or find more suitable one's? Though I might have a go at modifying them???

I've decided to bail out of my first attempt at the forks...well not completely as some may find their way home yet. Another search with a different eye came up with a few possibilities but still not convinced I have what I need. I may have to see what I can find among the gum trees? Anyway i have one that's going well:

I need the area surrounding the black perm marker dot to be beefy unlike the previous attempts. The reason for this will become more clear in time.
Meanwhile, I need to make some more trailing wheels. Just a simple guide is needed to cut each segment which will be joined with a copper dowel and epoxy glue then shaped so it flows.

I joined up some trailing wheels today. Here's the setup pre-epoxy.

I applied pressure to the joints with masking tape...

...or alternatively used some bent nails and a few wedges:

Glue is set, pretty happy with the segment connections, now on to blending one into the other which is one of the more enjoyable things to do in life.

Marking out spoke positions for the ones that've scooted ahead a bit. They're millimetre perfectish.
