Keen to hack at some logs
hi all
First post. I am keen to attack a few logs with chisels/angle grinders/chain saws and create some figurines (see attached pic). There is no intention to 'finish' or 'polish', roughness is the intended outcome.
I live in Enmore, Sydney and have been in Oz for 3 years, I just wouldn't have any idea where to source some logs or what type of logs to source. Furthest west I have been is Parramatta. Would much appreciate any information as to where and what to look for.
thanks
Haden

Hi Haden
I'm new to this as well but you could try tree service companies. The type that remove branches and trees from backyards and urban environs. They may even be able to advise or keep an eye out for some good wood in your area.
Try anything you can get your hands if that 'Baselitz' look is what you are after.
enjoy

Boutique Timbers
Try mal at Boutique Timbers.
He would have some Huon pine and other pine logs/stumps as well as cedar and hardwoods you can play with. He delivers to Sydney every month or so.

Baselitz has done it already. What will your style be?
I don't find his apparent lack of finesse, fit or finish to be particularly appealing.
July. Highway 16 & Main St., McBride. The CS carvers work there.
There's one carver who works with 4 saws, I could watch him all day when he gets moving with the dime tip. In fact, I own some of his works.
Wood, schmood. With a chainsaw, just about any log will do.
