Koch sharpening system ??
After reading the recent post on sharpening, has anyone had any experience with the KOCH system/wheels?
http://www.norahall.com/tools_koch.shtml
http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx...e=details#tabs
Seems like it has to do with the type of material used in the wheels??? (and the compound)
Has anyone bought these and used them?

I've never used the Koch system INVENTOR, but it sounds very similar to using a stitched sisal or cotton wheel (natural fibre) with a standard polishing compound (unique thermal reactive compound).
as far as I know, most of the compounds work like this (melt at speed) and I have never had a chisel get hot enough while buffing to do damage,
my concern is that this system removes the edge burr without turning the chisel over,
I find that the sharpest edge is achieved by repeatedly turning the chisel to fold the burr backwards and forwards till it's gone ( hard on the bevel edge, gentle on the inside edge)
I get a little suss when I hear "unique thermal reactive compound" used to describe "stuff that melts when it gets hot"
what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Thanks for the comments Undie, I think you are correct, I guess its like most things. Some work a bit better than others, its just a matter of how much better and at what extra expense/ time.
We were going to call in to see you, at the studio, the other day ( on our way home from QLD) but we were recovering from colds etc, so decided otherwise.
