I've finaly found the time to take some pics of my most recent work. Title is "The Dance of the Shaman" , stands about a meter tall. Chestnut , base is laminated oak. Finished with Danish oil and acrilic colours.

Very animate, great spaces and shapes. 'Spinal Tap' is the phrase that comes to mind.

Love the clean lines and organic flow of it. The crisp detail in rebated triangles and ridges is impressive too. I notice its laminated. How many blocks of chestnut did you use?

Beautiful work Artesano, you have captured the "shaman" theme well, dancing masked priests of the devil. I don't normally like any painting
on wood sculptures but yours is subtle and works well with the flow..

Thaks all for the kind comments.

Robson Valley: can't remember what exactly the original idea was - I have this moments of inspiration , when dozens of drawings just come in a day or two - this one dates from January 2011 , the work was finished about six months ago , and just waited for tha final touches - base and red paint.

Whittling: I think it was laminated from four 70 mm. thick boards of chestnut , to form a solid (and very heavy) block. Still , the outer layers ran not from top to bottom , there were arranged around the design for economy reasons.

Robthechisel: in the beginning I just finished my sculptures in the natural colours of the wood. Later I decided to paint/stain them , as they started looking somehow boring to me , and now I'm thinking about colours, adding other materials , inlays... Evolution - not always for the best , but it's Nature's way

..Nice one Ivan, spectacular as usual, I think the combination of colours , curves and voids work beautifully together

what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?
