    Yep...I've found that there is "Huon" and "huon"..
    I have worked with some tough crumbly stuff before...
    I understand that a fire went through a large store of salvaged huon pine a few years ago..the wood that survived ended up on the market...
    I bought some, it had some charring on the surface and was horrible to work..
    ..push a chisel or sharp knife through it before you buy any, if it's nice and waxy, that's the stuff you want

    Incredible piece of sculpture, something to aspire to (I wish,i wish,I wish). regarding RAAV'"s comment on Huon I have found that like most other woods it can vary quite a lot in hardness. I find that the deeper the colour the harder it is likely to be and for fine Chip Carving work it is less prone to have pieces chip out or flake off when carving. Brian.
