    Default Log Carving

    Log large.jpg

My first attempt at carving having salvaged a log from tree fellers working in the street.

With no plan in mind I just started chipping away with a couple of Stanley chisels and a mallet cutting a few steps. I worked up and around the log and decided to add a few arches for doorways and then shaped a building on top.

It became a bigger, longer job than I'd expected but thoroughly engrossing and enjoyable. Not knowing what to do with the bare carved log I decided to make it into a diorama and added some vines and trees I made from dowel and sawdust and a water feature using hot glue and clear epoxy.

shows the process. (Have sound on)

Excellent! From the thread title, I was expecting something more totemic, in view of where I live with paleo culture around me.
Poles always take a long time to carve, no surprises there.
I'm pleased to see no people.
That allows the viewer the fiction of being "first in the scene" with their imagination.

    Wow! This is spectacular.

If this is the beginning, I won't be surprised if your designs make it into the Myer windows.
