    Default Looking for opinions.

I have made some new table displays from palm pods which I have been selling for a little while now, I decided to paint one white and I'm just want to get some feed back on it. Do you like the white? what other colors should I try? or should I just be leaving them in natural grain. All opinions most welcome.

Keep them natural or stencil them pasley, white makes them look sterile.

I don't even see the reason for staining timber (or similar in this case) let alone painting it....so I vote natural. Leave the plastic look to Ikea et al.

Yeah, I probably agree with you on the white, it was pretty hard to paint but it was a suggestion from someone that I should offer an alternative to natural grain, thanks for the comments. so far 3 nil to natural grain

I think it works where there's a contrast with the wood of the table.
I suggest you try a dilute 'wash' to suggest the sun-bleached appearance of old ones. The wood grain should still be visible.
The assymetric ones looking like gigantic spoons are appealing.

Nothing wrong with the white one.
It stands out against the dark table for exactly the same reason you put the light grey cloth under the dark one.
A dark one on a dark table will get lost.

Its not always your choice, its what your customers want.

    Really like the concept.

I like the white colour, but would not want to see paint concealing everything. Contradicts the organic feel of the pieces.

I think this is the best suggestion you have received:

I suggest you try a dilute 'wash' to suggest the sun-bleached appearance of old ones. The wood grain should still be visible.

No need to buy liming solution or similar, just water down your white paint.

    Any chance of larger photos?

Hi Rob, Personally I don't like the paint either but if your principle reason for making them is to sell them, then I think Fly is right... its really not about what we think. Its about what sells. Knowing your market will tell you what you should do.

Personally if I had a choice between natural and painted I would go natural.

Of course if you do happen to have a customer that does not like the natural look then they might just take the painted out.

I have been thinking of this reply for a little while as I think if I open the can of worms then what. In stead of painting it white how about a very thin coat of watered down white where the natural could show through? So not exactly solid colour.

If your thinking about covering it in white then why not adapt the pods form into say porcelain and let it go from there, just thinkin

I would opine to stain it with something siple and natural like walnut, coffee, atherton almond skin, etcetera. No oils, varnishes etctera, maybe even fine ash rubbed in or the like

Thanks to you all for taking the time to comment and some of the suggestions are great, up till painting the white one I have been cleaning & rubbing them down as much as possible then using about 3 coats of cedar stain varnish, some are almost black when I get them so painting white is a pretty hard task, more time higher price. I like the white wash idea though. I posted them on facebook and asked the same question and most friends liked the white one but most are non woodies. I guess I'll just see how quick it sells and if I can get my price and work from there.
