Thread: Looking for a woodcarver to make two dolphins

Hi - I am hoping that someone can give me advice on how to go about looking for a woodcarver to carve a couple of matching wooden dolphins. They are to go on the toe rails of a sailing yacht and so the design is fairly specific when it comes to size, shape and detail (for example - tail fins cannot protrude out in some areas to avoid catching ropes etc.)
Preferred wood to use is teak (so a soft medium! )) and the plan is that we will varnish them when completed.
Location would therefore be important - somewhere between Newcastle and Sydney for a broad suggestion - unless if course we are given clear instructions on how to provide a pattern.
Your advice appreciated - looking at the question from our angle we have never "bumped into" wood carvers before except on a beach in Fiji - and only see the finished articles on tourist shops - most of those coming from overseas islands.

An indication of what we would have to pay would be good too - as if it is too expensove then we will abandon that idea and think of something else! )
