Smile Looking for a woodcarver to make two dolphins

Hi - I am hoping that someone can give me advice on how to go about looking for a woodcarver to carve a couple of matching wooden dolphins. They are to go on the toe rails of a sailing yacht and so the design is fairly specific when it comes to size, shape and detail (for example - tail fins cannot protrude out in some areas to avoid catching ropes etc.)
Preferred wood to use is teak (so a soft medium! )) and the plan is that we will varnish them when completed.
Location would therefore be important - somewhere between Newcastle and Sydney for a broad suggestion - unless if course we are given clear instructions on how to provide a pattern.
Your advice appreciated - looking at the question from our angle we have never "bumped into" wood carvers before except on a beach in Fiji - and only see the finished articles on tourist shops - most of those coming from overseas islands.

An indication of what we would have to pay would be good too - as if it is too expensove then we will abandon that idea and think of something else! )

    Thanks guys ...and girls!

There's a guy known as Bluey who runs the laundromat at the Jetty in Coffs Harbour who carves the best dolphins I've ever seen, usually from Rose mahogany or Red cedar. If you can find a phone number for him, he's a top bloke and might be able to help you out.

Hi Merrily. My father-in-law is the best wood carver around. He's in his late seventies now and has been carving for over 50 years, and has had his works displayed all over the world.
He only makes rocking horses now - all by hand, but may take a commission for a few dolphins if it interests him.
We have set him up with his own web-site (Grandfas Rocking Horses) and it keeps him pretty flat out. Have a look at the site & let me know if it's of interest to you.
