    Thumbs up Fisherman

    Welcome to the madhose fisherman.
They are great and would be the only kind of fish I could catch.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually do the fins seperately using gouges to shape them and rebate them into the fish. With the tail i use a vee chisel to make the patten. Ill take on board the feedback about the lips but i like them to stand out. Heres a couple of more pictures.

Nice work, Fisherman. As regards the lips, I think you have already got Arty's point, because you choose to show another photo where they look (to me, at least) much more suited to the piece as a whole. Caricature is a useful technique, provided it is applied to the whole piece consistently. If it is half "realistic" and half "caricated" it looks unbalanced.

Thanks for all the comments, only been carving for about a year so still have alot to learn. Im working on a kingfish at the moment, ill post it when its finished.

PS Anyone got any tips on sanding they almost takes me as long to sand as they do to carve.

Yes, sanding is a pain. I copied this rig from TTIT and works well for me. The drill costs $15 at Bunnings, the disc pad and sandpaper discs are available at Carrols.
