Wow that's new one to me,it would be a great method to get a really accurate cross section template although I suspect it would be quicker to just sculpt it using more conventional means !

Beautiful work! Saw something similar on our last trip to Tassie in the Burnie Makers Centre (an interesting place to visit).

I live in a forest of really cheap wood.
It never occurs to me to reconstruct a tree for carving!
As a laminated block of paper sheets, a) expensive and b) heavy.
The material cost must be substantial. I'm half guessing.
Tthe linked site grabbed this computer and I had to push the button/shut down to get away from it.
BTW, Rob, I "got" myself with the planer knife last night while honing.
Left side of my RH thumb knuckle, to the bone.
No blood on any carvings so all is well.

The above link is a video on how it's done, 14mins long but interesting.
Big shed, do you know what those sculptures are made of? very impressive.
R.V. Sounds like you got yourself a good one, I have many little nicks and cuts now, maybe I should invest in a glove

In the winter here, my shop is cold, my tools are cold, gloves are nice. Vibration, hand grime ion the wood, mallet vibration, splinters & slivers = many reasons beyond safety.
Took the gloves off for sharpening/tune-ups.
Yes, right to the bone. Hurts like Hello when I bump it, not much more bleeding. But, I know that my blades are carving sharp. Since then, it has knit up very well being a sharp/clean cut. Hurts when bumped but otherwise OK.
That Chinese guy would be very happy, out on the Nullarbor. Let's buy him a ticket out into the Gibber and see how he does.

Ha Ha RV, he would probably like the Nullarbor (no trees) seeing that he uses wood free paper. I worked there once for 3 months and yep, there's no trees, lots of salt bush but no trees.

The Nullarbor is still on my bucket list. Vic, NSW & Qld was about all the territory that I got into. Most spare time up in the Snowys.
Those links are still fighting back. Wood-free paper? I recall that we got some samples of plastic paper = very nice to write on, even with fountain pens.
I think about wood carving these days but 20-25C days gets me outdoors as much as possible.
