    Default power carving station

further to my comments about Arbortechs offering and the bits n pieces the dear beloved has been collecting for me, instead of chips and dust going 360* around the shed has anyone designed and hopefully happy with a 'carving station'.

What Iam thinking of is small solid table with clamps to hold a flat piece of timber, this would have walls around 3 sides and maybe even a 'roof/ceiling over the top. on the 'back wall' would be a noice 150mm bell mouth sucking most??? of the crap/waste away. Then then working on a larger pice a 'tent' like thing would stand around superjaws.

    just dreaming at present

    Hi

My "carving station" is a converted Horn sewing machine cabinet, removed the lifting mechanism and installed the dust collection hose to make a downdraft table, works well. On the bench top use a The Sqair which cleans the 43M sq workshop in about 20 minutes; with the RZ face mask I am reasonably well protected. Just me living the dream

    plan B....
found a 25mm sq tube metal fame thing 700x700x750H

thinking of lining outside walls with thick ply/MDF for hanging stuff on (carving power tools etc, 4 heavy lockable castors, 2 lower drawers open both front & back, top would be 30mm MDF offcut from cabinet maker, would have 25mm(?) holes and where top drawer should be this would be down draft dust collector hooked to dust extractor.

Id like to add some clamps that could go through the top and be used for holding off pieces of timber.... mallee stumps, driftwood etc for carving.

But I am up for suggestions as to types of clamps to use....

Instead of trying to collect the dust I moved outside and decided to sit down on the job so this probably doesn't come close to what your wanting but it might throw an idea or two your way
Got sick of shedding shavings all over the workbench and standing up the whole time. Now I can set the fan going to blow the dust out into the yard and chill a little.
I've set it up to hold my lathe chucks which will hold most of my work but I can also just drop the little bench on if I want and I also setup my hi-vice to fit on it but don't have a pic of it. The chuck clamp can be spun and twisted to just about any position I want and the seat can slide in and out to get nice and comfy with the work.
All made from scrap except the seat off an old stool which cost me a fiver from the tip shop
    Food for thought

well that is thinking outside the square, i like the concept, however I dont think our fussy landlord would take too kindly to shavings & chips over his yard.
You hear that housing rental is hard, try finding a shed to work in without commercial rates.

But yes you have given a different tangent to consider.
