I have both the Arbortech Mini Grinder and the Proxxon Grinder and find the work well in different situations.

The mini arbortech is ok with the standard cutter and the 2 tooth tct cutter but hates the saburr discs as the belt slips easily. I put this down to the fact that the saburr disc have a larger cutting area and the belt does not cope as well.

The Proxxon grinder as it is direct drive does not seem to have that problem, but you have to remember that they are both mini tools and more for detail work than heavy rip em up get out of the way work.

This is where the Arbortech TCT blade comes into its own, I try and use the large blade as much as possible then transfer over to the smaller machines when needed.

Thanks Jim. Its a good theory on the disc. It may be a vibration thing -I think one tends to apply more pressure with the saburr discs as well; there is a bit of flex in the arm of the mini carver, especially when its just collared on to a grinder, which causes the belt damage.

I've been following this discussion with some interest. I've got the Arbortec Pro wheel which I really like for very rough shaping. It just chews through most timbers with ease. It did take a while to get the hang of using it in a way that didn't leave your work looking as cratered as the surface of the moon.

I've recently purchased some discs from a mob in the US called 'King Arthur Tools'... the 'Holey Galahad' range. These sound a bit like the saburr discs but bigger... to fit a 125mm angle grinder. I got all 3 grades.. course, med and fine. I got them because I was getting tired of all of the sanding work the Arbortec leaves me and I was thinking that maybe these would make that chore a little easier.

Unfortunately, I've been snowed under trying to catch up on commission commitments and haven't had the time to try them out. Has any one tried them?

The holey galahad work the same as the saburr discs just with holes in them

Saburr just seem to have a slight edge on them

I'm wondering if these might be simple to make - melt plastic, put in aluminium oxide and pour in molds.
