    Welcome Cobalt.
Good group here with an uncommonly diverse interest in carving.
Talent and skill in your carvings.
    Any particular source(s) of inspiration?
    Wood preferences?

    Very nice.

How did you do the finishing of the swan with the black flecks? Or was it infused into the timber grain, and wiped off?

I used a wood burning pen tinted the beak then just varshed it.The eyes are glass and the head is mounted by a threaded rod with a silver nickel collar mounted on a hazel shank

Welcome to the forum Cobalt, You will find a mountain of helpful info looking back on previous posts. There's a couple of others doing walking/ hiking sticks here with a lot of experience. I like your swan, I'm not into painted wood much, prefer to leave natural grain but that's just personal taste. Look forward to seeing more from you

    Welcome to the forum !
That's some good work; I'd have make a patina or something on the dragon hiking pole. This green is quite agressive, but the carving is nice.

The colour is strong its deliberate .The puppets are useually strong colours with strong features to draw the attention.I tend to paint a lot of my carving but where possable i use a bit of wood burning,I am moving towards using a colour wash .Some of the reason is that lime a great wood to carve is very bland and needs geeing up a bit But i have carved some flowering cherry and would never paint it ,the grain is to nice
a few pics of more puppets they have to be strong bright and from a performance piont of view loud.p&j hiking (23).JPGp&j hiking (24).JPGp&j hiking (27).JPGp&j hiking (29).JPG
