    Yep, they used to use tallow wood for wharf piers. Can't say I have heard of anyone using liquid amber for them though.
    You might be best to research the timbers outdoor durability qualities before you even embark on such a large scale job.
    It'd be a pity to put all that work into a piece just to have it rot and crumble in a few short years.

    Yeh, I guess if I give the thing a 110% effort I may end up with something the education department might want to put money into conserving. Some art though is okay as temporary - especially if educational, ritual, didactic. Buddhists sand paintings come to mind and some aboriginal rituals. Thanks for the link Copeau! I love the overall effect of the carved tree. You are in France, yes? I toured Gothic Cathedrals there one year. I love the care and consideration for traditional and modern art in Europe. Must we in Australia go through centuries of upheaval before we understand the necessity of creating beautiful and enduring architecture and public sculpture? Or does the landscape do it for us anyway?
