Great dish, thanks for showing it to us.
Epoxies are physiologically inert once the stuff has polymerized. No problems.
Seal the outside bottoms of the cavities with masking tape, pour in the filler and wait.
prune off all the excess and you're done.
At the same time, you could add fillers as features of interest to the epoxy = go to a hardware that cuts keys.
You can get enough glittering brass key dust to last a lifetime.

Epoxies are fine as long as you don't have an aesthetic objection. I find using clear casting resin doesn't overpower the design.
