    Default Training Melb?

    Hi

Would love to try my hand at carving and have done some dabbling (nothing finished yet) but I am someone who learns well by being shown, especially in regards to using my tools correctly and working with the wood, can anyone point me in the direction of any courses or similar located in Melbourne?

    Many Thanks

When I saw that there was a reply from you, Arty, I thought you were offering your services as private tutor...

I am also surprised that there is no carving "school" in Melbourne. There is one here in Adelaide. Maybe you could call them, Gvassila, and see if they know of anybody in Melbourne. The name is Woodcarving Academy, IIRC.

Victorian Woodworkers Association are running a class in carving at their Nth Melb workshop.
Unfortunately I do not have the details as I have thrown out the newsletter.
Woodborer might be able to help you if you PM him

There is an feature article in our local paper this week about woodcarving and woodturning at the Woodcraft Manningham club in Templestowe.

It says they always have room for new enthusiasts and new members are welcome to take part in the introductory instruction classes that are frequently held.

For details see www.woodcraft-manningham.org.au or phone 9728 2179.

    Hope that helps.

    Peter.

Revolutionary! The traditional way of starting with white wine is being reversed! A new artistic trend has begun!

I do love a good red and have a number of bottles here. Maybe we could start some sort of wood/wine matching, a nice heavier red (say a shiraz) if working with jarrah or red gum.

On Chesand's advice I have looked up the VWA and they have sent me details for their next carving course, I've managed to get the Hubby to agree to look after the 3 boys (lol, that will be interesting) so I'll sign up to the course in the next few days.

Thanks for all your help, I'll keep you posted.
