Spatial sense VS direction sense
All my life i've been obsessed with understanding the brain.
One particular thing that i've been thinking about lately is the fact that i have a very good ability to visualise 3d objects. Aside from sculptral work i do a lot of jewellery design in my head and can draw these designs up as 3d models in my cad software.
now...I have a really bad direction sense. Iam hopeless with navigating, bad with maps, i get lost easily.
I was telling a psychologist friend about this yesterday and he remarked that his wife was quite similar. She could visualise how a tent that baffled everyone else was supposed to be put up, but like me, could probably get lost in said tent.
Iam just curious to hear if anyone here is like this as well. I chose the carvers forum because it is a craft that attracts and nutures those with good 3d modeling senses.

The hard thing for me is switching one side to the other ,when i use ,l thinks its the left side of the brain that controls creative things .when l am carving or need that side of my brain to work harder ,it takes a little time to get in top gear ,but l can switch to the right side quickly but loose the left side warm up and have to do it again .When you go in to a good creative faze thing move more quickly ,carving ,job changes ,kids, thing just happen
But it pulls you back ,,,bills to paysmile and the world will smile with you

Being able to visualise depends on visual spatial skills, as you note. Being able to recognise and follow directions on a map require visual (spatial) sequencing skills.
Following verbal instructions involves the interaction between auditory sequential memory and visual sequential memory.
