Default Stand for a Japanese Rock

    Greetings all,

I thought some of you might like to see the stand i've been working on to fit a Japanese rock thats owned by a friend of mine. The base of it was relatively smooth but far from flat which made fitting it fun...
Its hard to see with the pine in the raw, but the 'cradle' for it is carved to match the slight undulation in the base of the rock to keep everything nice and snug.

The wood is nothing special/just Bunnings radiata pine but after a few coats of shellac and stain mixed together i think it came out okay.

Carving the undulating bead and the 'beveled' curve around the top edge of it proved much more challenging that expected, not least because of how much the radiata wants to tear out! It really lets you know the second your tools start to lose their edge!

Who would've thought Radiata Pine could end up like that? What a fantastic job. Well done.
