Sticks
Yes, yes, I know, I have strayed from the path of righteousness and enjoyed trying new ways of doing round things
As a gesture of reconciliation to the carving community, here is a round thing that seems to have a lot of following in this forum: a stick
.
Of course, I have the wrong end of the stick, the intellectually demanding part being the handle, but I found a new use for the half tonne of Queensland hardwood bought last year: I can churn out a few hundreds of these. Anybody wants to start a partnership for the mass production of personally customised walking sticks? Sorry I can't help you Stixman, no one is twisted here!

G'day Frank,
They'd be ok for shafts to go under carved handles, or maybe the square top part could be carved for a one piece 'knob' type stick. What are they made of? What is your maximum diameter? What is your max length?
If you are serious about making them to sell, how much do you want for them?

Serious? I must not have put enough
s in my post then!
Seriously, the timbers are stringybark, spotted gum etc, all should be 10 Janka or more. The max diametre is 20/22 mm, let's say 20 to be sure, length theoretically 1060 but above 770 would be a bit more difficult to make, would require a steady.
This prototype is 775 long, 18 tapering to 15 diametre and is made of some sort of stringybark, I think. The square top is there just because I could not be bothered finishing it, it could be finished depending on the type of attachment (bolt or tube). Too small for a decent knob, IMHO, but could be the base on which to glue some carveable piece, maybe. The shaft is sanded to 120 and waxed. To do it like this takes about one hour, maybe less if i get good at it, longer length and better finish would take longer, of course. After all the info you got about pricing, you do the maths.
I am not interested in a business as such, but if you would like me to make a few dozens for you on a friendly basis, to your specifications, send me a PM. You could always drop in and have a cuppa. Or tell me where your next fair is, I might come around to have a look at your products.
