    Default Suppliers of Knife Blanks?

Does anyone have any experience of buying knife blanks from Aliexpress or Alibaba? Any recommendations of suppliers on there?

What sort of a wood carving knife do you intend to make?

I have repurposed 2 dozen worn down farrier's hoof trimming knives as entirely satisfactory wood carvers.
Otherwise, I have found it most practical to buy a finished blade from a local and experienced blade smith.
To that, I'll add a handle of my own design and get back to carving.

Farriers have forges, dealing as they do with many sizes of horse shoes. Some dabble in blade smithing.

Ha! No problem. Everybody does it.

Of my 5 cleavers, the oldest is about 1970/Melbourne ( Little Collins St?).
I use 3 which are just 15cm/6" that cost me $15.00 each.
The two big ones (1980's) hardly ever get much use anymore since I found the small ones.
A straight little prep knife with maybe a 10cm/4" blade, 4 or more of them, would be all that I make much use of.

Can you reveal what sorts of blade shape designs you are thinking of?
I'm really tempted to bash off a couple of factory handles and make up something that actually fits my hands.
Age and arthritis have changed my grip and some kitchen knives are not nice to hold for a fine dice.

Woodcraft.com has a large selection of knife kits. You could also try searching on Amazon - probably more likely to find local ones that way...
