turtles
This project started out as mainly woodcarving. Nothing too intricate, but enough to get the idea.
A turtle, right?
Not too much detail. Pity about the t&g thru the head.
Hoop Pine, by the way.
For the next couple, chasing the thread, I used a combination of Hoop Pine and Oak. Makes a nice contrast and cuts down the time spent carving.
You can see the contrast better on the underside.

At last! A #### of Hurtles. Elegant in the simplicity, the viewer's mind fills in the blanks.
The t&g would be the last thing on my mind when my thoughts are otherwise pre-occupied.

Just nice. Didn't need more details : you usually don't take the time to look at details when you get there.

That's not the end you look with anyway...
Brilliant idea. Where did you get your hardware?
As an aside, We came across a snake-necked turtle on the road on the way home yesterday so we picked him up for a photo shoot. He's due to be released in the big dam at the back of our block tomorrow after having been photographed a number of times from every conceivable angle. My idea was to do a more true to life but who knows....

None available in Australia so I got them in from the UK. There are various sellers there, different styles and so on. Ebay has a good selection of suppliers represented. It may be useful to find a company that supplies the long under-seat buffers as well as the hinges and bring them in together to cut down on postage. I only found the small round lid buffers locally (in limited colour options).

No, but some days, I furtle a lot.
I still admire the utter simplicity of the form. Distilled.
