Default Walking stick with antler head

I am going to attempt my first walking stick. I have a lump of deer antler for the head/handle. I have drilled it to suit the stick and I will add some nice red cedar bumps on the ends of the antler to finish it off.
Is there a finish to use on the antler? Or just a light smoothing of sandpaper and then a wax buff?
Is there a prefered glue to use for the stick into the antler?
    Any guidance is gratefully appreciated.
    Lyle.

Use Epoxy resin 2-part glue for antler.
Sand paper is too coarse for antler , instead finish antler by first rubbng down with very fine wire wool the grade is called OOOO or 4/O.
After that it needs to be "polished" ( well abraded even more finely really) with a very fine abrasive compound - Chrome polish, silver polish, brass polish, stopping compound are all OK for this.
