Wonderful Andy. I am particularly interested in the witche's nose and hat brim. Do you worry about them breaking with the grain going through them as it does? I have a commission for a 'Punch' puppet (as in Punch and Judy), and I'm concerned about the potential weakness of the protruding nose and chin so some feedback from yourself would help.

thank you whittling, no i don't worry about that, i don't say that it can't happen but i have found out that when i use oak the structure of the tree is verry dense especialy when it is still very whet inside. i finish the sculptures with Danish Oil, this penetrates good in the wood. This is what i see of it, then again i can be completly wrong, since i 've been just start to work with wood. But the logger i had my wood from told me too seal the wood as fast as i could after i finished carving, it slows the drying and avoid too big cracks.
But the wizard i made has big cracks in his rim but they are still pretty solid i must say
hope that was a little help
