    Default Wooden dolls and marionettes

Does anybody here carve, whittle or make wooden dolls? I am carving some balsa out into arms and legs at the moment but not having ever carved anything in my life, I don't know what joints would be good. One join I was interested in was a butt swivel which allows two dowel shaped pieces to line up and swivel against each other. That could be used in the thigh piece and/or upper arm.

The doll isn't to be completely balsa of course, I am laying creative clay over that for fine detailing. There are so many joins I need though that I am at a loss.
Hips, knees, ankles, shoulders, elbows, wrists and neck.

    Some advice would be great!

    Cheers
    Kym

Might be useful to Google the Cashore Marionettes and study them.

I've seen that from the front row. 30-50 strings and exquisitely articulated movements.
I can't remember if any have or had exposed joints.

You might need to fashion a variety of joints to explore the mechanics.
Just had a look at the promos, I've seen most of those and more.
    The elephant joints are exposed.
