If you're using an email program, or ftp, or internet browser etc etc etc, you must already have open ports, otherwise the programs wouldn't be able to access the web. So I'm not sure I understand the issue, you are just allowing Azur...(whatsit) access, it's not as if you're blowing open the whole firewall. Yes, there's a extra degree of risk, but it's 1 port additional to whtaever is already open (which I suspect would be quite a few).

Gumby: Thanks for helping me sort this vid dl stuff out.

This home vid caper is 1st class funny, interesting and informative viewing in my book, regardless of shed sizes, hungry dogs, lost wood etc etc.

I have watched and seeded them all.

The only problem i can see, is the issue of demand out stripping supply ...please tell me i'm wrong.

Got a sorta question that relates
When I download and for some reason I get dropped off or have to close the system down in the middle or as I did just a minute ago near the bloody end of a 5 hour marathon download (yep a slow dialup this am) and go back to finish of the download presently I have to download the whole friggin thing again!! Is there a program out there that will let me download where I left off rather than having to start all over again?
    Cheers!!

Shane, if you are using my FTP site the answer is no, you have to start again.

If you are using Azureus and torrents, it should start up where it left off the last time.

Thumbs up So far so good.

    G'day,

Seem to have Azwhatchmacallit working OK so far, downloading DPs workroom. This programme is slow compared to the likes of Limewire and others but that's how it goes I guess. (shrug)

Damn PC originated programmes aren't very intuititave.

Not so. I downloaded Stuart's shop tour the other day at over 40kb/sec. I never get that speed on limewire.

It will get faster IF you seed some files as well. It depends on your overall share ratio too.
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

That's the spirit. Care and Share. What a happy forum we are.

BTW, if nothing else comes of this, we've learnt a lot about file sharing.

And Shane, Groggy is right. Azureus will pick up where it left off. That's another benefit of the torrent system. When it starts, it checks to see what parts of the file you need and goes about downloading them. That's why it's important to leave a copy of the files in the directory which Azureus uses for it's downloads. If you move the file away, and load that torrent fil;e again, it will think you haven't got any of it and start all over again.
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

    Default Seeds across the ocean

Right then. Azureus. Torrent. Download. Seed. Peer. Upload. Repeat.

I've plunged into this because it seems a good bit of fun and I will learn something as well. Installed everything from scratch with a few hiccups. Had to get the right codec to see the vids. Opened a port thru McAfee with no probs. Get the little firewall/NAT probelm light but seems to have no adverse effect.

Since I'm on nearly 24/7 with no limits on uploads (that I'm aware of:eek: ) I can do my share of seeding. I'll try to remember to leave it on most of the time, so long as I don't experience significant slowing.

Stuart, how tall are you mate? That is a seriously efficient shed.

Will try to get a shed tour put together as soon as my cousin returns my camera. (She's probably lost it.)

    Thanks for all your work.
    Cheers,

    Bob

Bob: You can control Azureus up and download speeds. Just click on the blue arrows in the bottom right corner.

5'9" - As I just said to Wild Dingo where he thought I'd have masses of sawdust - I can't afford to. If there is sawdust on the floor, my head scrapes the roof!

Gumby: You can devote 100% of your bandwidth on limewire, but it will slow anything else you do online. So overnights the go.
