I have set mine that way to allow him to do it but the default setting in Azureus doesn't allow this.
Gumby, I don't think Woodbutcher has a home network from what he wrote. Certainly Azureus will allow it to copy over but that is a huge waste of bandwidth. Best to set up a home network and do it that way, or burn to a CD/DVD and then move it.

    Using Multiple Computers.

Since Gumby mentioned this I thought I'd better explain before a number of others try it.

First, think of the file you want to download as a few thousand little files (or packets) joined together; this is what Azureus does to them. Next, when the files are being sent and received by torrent format, they are actually sending the little files until they are all received - then joined back together.

Now, as to what I am doing. I have about seven PCs at home including a server. One of these PCs (data server) is where I keep both the torrents and the data. I use a total of four PCs to manipulate torrents (wife and kids won't let me use theirs ). Each PC has its Azureus default file locations set to the data server locations.

When I place a new torrent in the data server torrent directory, it is detected by the other PCs, who begin to download it. The first PC to request a file segment will ask for part1, the next PC sees part1 as busy (locked) so it asks for part2, and so on through the four PCs. Noting that each PC uses a different port, this allows a single torrent to be built by numerous PCs (multitasking the network). On the day I tested it, other users were at 50% when I began, I caught up to them at 80% and finished well before they did. I also noticed my upload bandwidth increase exponentially as I caught up and overtook, indicating that each PC was seeding simultaneously. This means I was also accellerating the download speed of the others I was 'chasing' because I was distributing to them at the same time I was downloading from Gumby.

The next benefit is to do with seeding, by reversing the process, I can seed the file four times from the same torrent, there are no segment request conflicts as the file is never locked, only read.

Now, having explained the above, as Gumby said, you need to have the host allow multiple connections from the same IP address, and this requires more than a modicum of trust on the hosts part (thanks green guy!).

The FTP site is hosted on the home network server (not the data server) and I transfer the files manually once I have the completed file, this reduces transfers and accesses to the files when it is unnecessary.

    G'day,

OK, now I'm confused, the link below Gumby's signature takes me back to this thread and I'm trying to find the funny home videos.

Where the heck are they, I mean this is Channel 9 Eddie isn't it?

Actually I do and at the moment I have spent around 2 hours tweaking it for Azureus. I have had to set the adsl modem then the wireless router and then my PC firewall so that now I have optimum port forwarding. (Should've been studying but what the hell )

The problem is that my computer is also the laptop I take to uni for work there but I want to be able to keep sharing 24/7 hence why I am setting up the old PC. I should have it going mid tomorrow morning so we'll see what happens!
Have a nice day - Cheers

Default 13570 viruses can't be wrong.

We have a laptop in the workshop at present that has 13570 instances of various versions of the Alcan virus, all from faqing Limewire.
We deleted Limewire & the bloke that owns that laptop is in the process of deleting the teenage daughter who loaded it.

Wonder - should I give a toss about setting up the home network? Even with one computer seeding, my internet connection drags its a$$ on the ground.

    ADSL 512/128.

I have another computer doing nothing, but would setting it up (somehow) to do what Groggy and Wood Butcher are up to help, or hinder me?

(I may work in IT, but I know jack #### of #### all about networks!)

Stu, as I said earlier, the only reason I am doing it is so I can be seeding 24/7 as I take the laptop to uni and SWMBO will not let me near her computer. So I'll do it to the kids PC .

BTW I have a connection the same speed to yours so I won't be having two computers seeding, way too slow.
Have a nice day - Cheers

That's what I thought. I'm thinking I might recommission the other computer and have it seeding 24/7, and control it from this laptop with PC Anywhere.

I've just set up a second computer (son is away tonight so I can play on his) and it's downloading too. I'm now getting speeds up to 60kb/sec on the download and 40kb/sec on the upload. The second computer is pointing to the file on the first computer. (I assume that's correct). I also got a message in Azureau recommending a change of port from 6881 to 39475. I've done that on the second machine and allowed AZ through the firewall on the second computer. All lookin good so far.

I'm currently downloading and uploading at about 15kb/sec. I've set both on "unlimited" for speed. I don't mind the rate but feel I oculd share faster if I oculd get the rate up. Any suggestions? Or is it just what it is?
    Cheers,

    Bob

I think it's about all you could get Bob but considering where you are, it's pretty good. Thanks for taking part in this. maybe we'll get to see your workshop soon.

I think my speeds are somewhat unreal. I'm actually transferring parts of the file across my own LAN so that would explain some of it. (I think, again

    did you hit
    control/alt/delete
to see what was taking up usuage of the cpu ? Sometimers, if something doesn't shut down properly, you'll find it in there running about 97% of your usage. I'd be looking there first.
