WANTED: Various Solid Log Sections.
Hi There Guys,
my name is brad and i am a drum builder from sydney just wondering if anyone has or can put me in the direction of anyone that would be able to supply me with either solid log billets or hollowed billets ( its easier if the termites do the work for me ) billets need to be approx 16 - 17" in diameter and if hollow is available at least a 5 inch wall thickness. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Brad

log sections
Brad,
I have paulownia logs that that I can cut to meet your dimensions if your interested but they are not hollow. They are reportably good for making guitars so I suppose the would produce a good sound as a drum. I case your not familiar with paulownia it is a soft white wood and easy to work with provided your tools are sharp

thanks so much for your help guys .
just to give you an idea another builder over in WA uses jarrah, so hardwood is definately an option.
as far as my other stave construction drums go i have had great success with the folllowing:
Jarrah
Brushbox
Spotted Gum
Silky Oak
Sassafrass
after roughing to allow the blanks to dry i will be after a size of say:
14.5" OD
13" ID
7.5" Long
so if the bllets have sa extra inch of stock on these sizes ill be laughing
Cheers
