Ok, another option might be to cut one long mortice (a groove?) in each post then use spacer blocks between the slats/rails, making sure the grain in the spacers runs in the same direction as the post.

    Talking

    Patience and a steady hand...
If you were to make the curve in the uprights arcs from a circles circumfrence you could modify (or create) a morticing jig (like Rockers) that followed the same arc and should give you very repeatable results.
As for the tenon in the post idea, I have made both our bed and the spare using this construction. I have also backed it up with a piece of angle on the inside for rigidity. I have seen too many shop bought bed fittings fail or loosen over time.
I can still pull the bed apart in about the same time as a shop bought one but have never needed to retighten the screws or bolts.
Below is a piccy of the finished product.
    Cheers

Started on this a couple of weeks ago, after much ruminating. Pic is from an American web catalouge, no plan so I've done my own. Changes every weekend. I will post progress. Don't hold breath.

Right. Timber is all DAR and sized. Individual pieces (70 No.) still to be trimmed to size, then:
    • Form pockets for captive nuts in the legs
    • Rout/drill side rails for bolts
    • Machine slots in end rails for centre verticals
    • rout all holes for dominos - major design change, requiring many mm of eraser on my plans.
    • Coat of cut-back shellac on everything
    • Assemble
    • finish with China oil

    Party.

Next project: bookcase. A nice easy one.

He's right - it is looking good.
I love the curved pieces - especially as you told us how to do them (I see the templates in the backround).

    Tassikiwi,

I was gratified to see from pic 2 in post #24 that the morticing jig has not been consigned to the dustbin of history, now that you have a Domino in your shed I think it still has a place, in those situations which the Domino was not designed to cater for.

Indeed. I had spent the previous evening rearranging the plans to cater for the dominos, which in almost all cases were the brilliant solution. Because the bed needed to be 'knock-down' I had already planned to have a captive nut embedded in the end rail's tenon. I had changed the 150mm long M&T into 2 10mm Domis, and had sketched a small 60mm pocket to house a floating 1/2 tenon that would only be in the leg section - trapped forever after assembly.

I was doing my head in trying to fit everything into the coner joint ( 4x 10mm domis plus bolt and nut) without clashes, wasting shed time when the solution thankfully popped into my head. as per the pics. Yay for Rocker's jig, I said. Mind you, one must ensure that one starts at the correct end of the desired mortice, or you will have a wee patch job to do. DAMHIK.
