10" Carbatec combination thicknesser feed in roller clogging
I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with this before.
When using my Carbatec 10" combination thicknesser/jointer as a thicknesser the cast iron feed in roller clogs. What seems to happen is that the shavings from the cutters are blown back around the roller which then rolls over them, compressing them into the grooves. This builds up in only a couple of metres of timber to the point where the roller won't feed the timber. I have a 2kw blower for shaving removal that is working fine and I'm a bit stumped. It happens only on the center of the roller, even when I'm using the full width of the thicknesser.
Anyone seen this before?

Hi, yes I have the same problem, I periodically clean ot the grooves with a scriber point or whatever is to hand.It is particularly problematic with pine due to the resin buildup and less so with jarrah and other hardwoods.
The chip exctraction on this machine is not particularly impressive but have learned to live with it's shortcomings.
I think the major problem is keeping the cast iron table smooth running enough to stop timber stalling and having the infeed roller grind against the timber.

Today I was thicknessing old messmate, I was ending up at the point where the roller was heading towards unusable in only 2m of timber. Did it the other day with Jarrah as well. So it's a lot of stopping and opening it up to scratch the roller clean. It runs ok while the roller is clean.
I wonder if anyone has found a way to put a guard in between the cutters and the roller.
