Thread: 150 mm sanding discs???

http://www.elraco.com.au/ have most types by the box full, but they are here in SA might be ok as its an online store?

I have found up to 400g at Bunnings, with the right holes for my Metabo. Over 400 I'll do by hand, if I do at all.

I was looking for 6" discs for my festo,and I found a great range at panel beating suppliers.And they were also the cheapest place I could find them.They might be worth a phone call.

Are you only looking for Makita branded disks? Bunnings sell the Bosch version, and I use these on my Festo.

If you are looking for a good deal on abrasives or anything like a good range of product, forget the retail hardwares and most of the tool shops.

A specialist abrasive supplier is the way to go or as said before an auto refinish supplier.
Let you fingers do the walking and get on the phone.
there has to be a supplier that will do a decent deal on split box quantities.

At the prices the specialists charge buying boxes of 100 isn't unrealistic, particularly if you get a taste for using the machine a lot..... you will

Hmm.. I've just checked the sander and have discovered that it will take a 6-hole disc as well as a 9 hole disc. Obvious really, but I hadn't spotted that earlier. Gramps must be a bit of a thicko! That makes things a whole lot easier as I have seen plenty of the 6-hole variety in my local hardware store.

Harry 72: Thanks, that site looks good and may be an option if I can't get the grades that I want.

Tex: Thanks for the response. Yes I usually like to hand sand after 450 but I think that this sander may give good results at higher grades.

Tools: Panel beaters; that is a useful tip, thanks, I hadn't thought of trying there.

Thanks for that Soundman, I'll do that. I despair that we seem to be seeing an increasing number of retail hardware chains that are basically selling basically the same consumer products at (usually) similar prices, with an emphasis on cheap imports.

It's called progress, I guess, but you know, I spent the day working on a Walker-Turner buzzer that I am tidying before before putting back into service in my workshop. It's probably 50 years old and has its original 1/2 hp motor, but will probably be useable in 50 years time with its tables still as straight as a die.
