deep groove
i need to cut a deep groove 1/8" width and 1/2" deep on the back of a piece.
i cannot machine it with the table saw, because the start and end should be straight.
the longest router bit 1/8" i' have been able to find is 3/8".
i considered taking a drill bit and, on the bench drill press, build a sort of "sliding table", but he dimensions of the drill press will not allow me to fit the stock.
my router fits 1/4 and 1/2 collards, so i cannot try "routing" (albeit VERY SLOWLY) using a 1/8" drill bit.
any suggestions / recommendations will be very appreciated.
thanks in advance,

You could always cut the grove on the table saw and clean up the ends by hand with a chisel. Should not be that difficult.

Dremel + router base accessory + Rotozip cutter (solid carbide, 1/8"). Usually used for cutting tile, but also works on steel and wood. Take small bites.

I'm pretty sure that a standard Dremel 1/8" straight-cut bit will just make 1/2" depth, too.
Carbatec also have a 1/8"diameter, 12.7mm depth, straight-cut 1/4" shank bit here: Straight Bits - 1/4" (6.35mm) shank : CARBA-TEC (Stock number 107021)
Most 1/8" dia. bits that I've seen have a 12.7mm depth.... Steve

You could try this. 3.2 is as near as to 1/8 and 12.7 cutting depth is what you want, Plus you get a really clean cut with an upcut This is a CMT cutter from Carbatec. I know they work cause I use one for finger joints.
