Default 2013 Pallet Challenge Mk III - Discussion Thread

This forum in the past has had two pallet challenges where something is made from a pallet. I had participated in the last one and although my efforts were poor with only one vote (not even mine) I enjoyed making something.

Actually I made two things and submitted one as the rules stated one item.

The last pallet challenge was in 2010 and the one before that was about two years ago, so this is well over due. So I have taken on the task as the person who looks after the administration of the pallet challenge. What that actually means I have become a Personal Assistance to the Pallet Challenge.

If you are interested then take a look at the link for the rules and register your involvement.

At the present moment there are no prizes but there is always hope.

It will be more of a challenge than in years past as the quality and availability of wood pallets has gone down a lot. The challenge is now to find a good pallet.

Pallets a little harder to find at the moment cos is winter fire season. The place that usually has stacks of 'em has none. Better go for a drive a bit further afield later. :S

Does that mean that where you are working does not have any pallets? Or are they all made from another type of material?

Plenty of free pallets available on Gumtree. Try this or that.

My pallet has been pulled apart
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

    Question????

I have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to pallets, lucky me.

Rules state ONE pallet at approx 1200mm x 1200mm.

Can you use the material of 1 pallet but mix and match the timbers from different pallets? ie Jarrah from one pallet and Pine from another?

    Cheers

    Shawn

The reason it is one pallet because everyone is on equal footing. Everyone starts at the same place.

I have seen pallets made up of really nice figured wood of a rich dark brown almost red, not very common but they do exist. Better to use them than to dump them.

Here's something that might help people getting their pallets apart if they haven't already started
