    Question 25/32 arbor dado?

Does anyone know of a dado set for a 25/32" arbor? Everything I search for now is for 5/8" only.

25/32"? Good grief, who created this abomination?

That's 19.84mm. Could you use the 1" version of this set and have a sleeve made up? Someone on the metalwork forums would probably knock it up for a slab.

Or have a ⅝" set bored out to 25/32"

The benefit of a dado set is that they can be set to any width in the sets range from min to max, by combining blades and shims of various widths. The sleeve would need to match the width of the blade and shim stack less a small amount (say 0.1mm) to prevent the nut tightening against the sleeve rather than the stack. Basically you would need a sleeve for every width that you might want to obtain from the set. Individual sleeves for each blade in the set may work, but would make fine adjustment with supplied shims virtually impossible. My approach would be to speak to a saw doctor about having the blades rebored to suit, but again the shim issue rears its ugly head.

    Yes, good point.

Well, actually, Black and Decker did. It is the standard dog-hole size on their Workmates. Their rationale apparently was that everyone else uses ¾ inch dog-holes (ie 24/32") so they increased their size by 1/32" so that no one else's dogs would fit their dog-holes - want a dog then you have to buy it from B&D. Try putting a Veritas dog into a Workmate dog-hole and see what happens.

Presumably, whoever made Polemic's saw arbor was using the same logic. Essentially "only my blades and my dado-sets will fit my proprietary arbor".

And probably, that "unique" dog size would have intellectual property protection.

I wonder if it wouldn't be a better solution long term to just have the arbor ground down to 3/4"?

That should work, but you would need a spacer for existing saw blades.

Another option would be to drill out 3/4" dado set to 25/32".

Just sell any existing blades and start again, I doubt there'd be bushes available for 3/4 - 25/32. You really only need 2 or 3 blades to cover pretty much everything.

Boring out would be easy, but as mentioned further up the thread, all the spacers would need to be bored out as well which is going to be an issue with the thin ones.

Thanks for the head's up on this - I didn't notice that there was a range of arbors available. All I need is a number of reducing rings for 30mm-->20mm, same as I have on saw blades. Simplicity is king!

Careful, your metric communist philosophy may offend sensitive yankee imperialists.
