3d Software
Hello
I work in a cabinet making business on the Sunshine Coast. We are about to buy 3D software and have narrowed it down to Microvellum and Pytha. Both have fantastic features and it is difficult to distinguish between them. We do high end kitchens and cabinetry and a bit of shop fitting, all of it for architects. Every job is different. We are going to buy a machine and make the process seemless.
I want to ask if anyone on the forum has experience with either of the packages and could give an opinion.
Best Regards
Nigel Brooks

Hi Nigel, ask them how many seats they have in Aust. How many upgrades per yr. Do they have phone support and if so how many do they have on staff. is thew package international or local. If so how long has it been going etc.
if its international do they have a user group.
The main issue is how often do they bring out new version and how do they distribute bug fixes. Some of the major companies post fixes on web sites so you can download the latest fix if your paid up memeber.
The thing to ask is if you can have the number of companies using the software and ask to speak to them. You can get pretty good feedback before you hand over your money.

Hi Nigel,
You posted this a while ago now so maybe my reply will find you to late.

I use Microvellum frequently during the course of my day. I would recommend Microvellum but I would also add the following warnings…<O</O
<O</O
Microvellum comes with a pretty good library of cabinets suitable for kitchens, wardrobes or basic cabinets. Although this library can be modified to suit any situation, you will be in for a steep learning curve if you want to modify.<O</O
<O</O
It has taken me a long time to learn what I needed to know to make a parametric library suitable for my business. I have spend hundreds of hours working out formulas, getting my head around excel language, and battling with maths to make the perfect cabinet library for my business, but it has been worth it, I save hours on each job now.
</O
Although I am very happy with microvellum now that I know how to use it, I will add that I was very frustrated for a long time. My biggest frustration was that when I purchased it I was promised a library of cabinets to suit my business and that promise was never delivered. In fact I was told I would have all the help I needed to build my library but that help was often late which adding to my frustrations and downtime.<O</O
<O</O
Perhaps they have got their act together now. I wouldn’t know because I refuse to pay the 2000 dollar fee they want each year for support. I would have thought the 35,000 to buy the program.. or whatever it is today would entitle you to years of help, support and updates. Apparently not.<O</O
<O</O
Microvellum can handle your architectural Kitchens and shop fit-outs no problems at all if you are up for learning the program. Knowing how to draw 3D drawings in AutoCAD is a massive bonus as you can make your own hardware and assign machining to it.<O</O
<O</O
All in all I love Microvellum the software. I’m just not happy how microvellum the company has serviced me.<O</O
<O</O
Cheers<O</O
