    Default 4mm slots

Okay, this is the case (I hope you understand what I mean because I'm Dutch and I don't know much woodworking jargon in english):

I'm making a cabinet to store my ribbons in. I've come up with a way to hang them between two sticks which are adjustable. So I've got 34 pieces of wood of 1cm by 14cm, 6mm thick and they all need to get 16 slots each of 4 mm. I have a handheld woodworking tool, a Dremel, but I'm not in the mood to mill (is that the right word?) 544 slots by hand with a tiny tool. Can anyone help me? Any ideas on how to get this done without spending a fortune on equipment?

The only way I can see avoiding making 544 cuts is to line the pieces side by side and cut across multiple pieces at once.

I assume the cut goes across the 10mm face but does not descend at 90 degrees into that face. I also assume that the cut is 4mm wide rather than deep.

You could buy a cheap laminate trimmer and a 4mm straight router bit, and make a false base for the trimmer with a block screwed to an edge to give a slope and then run the trimmer along a straight edge or fence, across multiple pieces clamped together. That is just one way of doing it. Others here will probably suggest better ways.

Please confirm whether my assumptions are correct so that others have less guessing to do.

I don't have a complete mental image of your project. Ribbons (whatever they may be) hang between two sticks, and there are 17 such pairs. The sticks are 6mm x 10mm, 140mm long. The sticks have 16 slots 4mm wide or deep (doesn't matter which, could be both) at roughly 8mm on centers, which leaves 4mm solid (I think) between slots, with 6mm solid at each end, more or less. It also doesn't matter which face of the stick receives the slots. I certainly wouldn't relish the prospect of cutting 544 slots either.

Gang cutting of some sort is probably best, with the pieces temporarily attached together. I'd prefer to use a router table with adjustable fence. But to avoid much additional equipment, consider a router base plate for the Dremel; about US$30 when I last bought one a few years ago. Clamp a straightedge across the gang of sticks for each cutting position, and ride the flat side of the base plate against it. If the slots are deep, cut only about 2mm deep for each pass.

Just a different way of expressing Graeme's guess and suggestion.

    Cheers,
    Joe
