Default 7.2 metre beams in Brisbane

    G'day guys,

I need to replace an ornamental shade structure that's rotting on my investment property. As it's not weight bearing, it doesn't need to be hardwood etc - it just needs to be long, and cheap. We'll be selling the house so longevity isn't an issue either.

The beams need to be around 200mm x 50mm (but could be taller or thicker) and at least 7 metres long, preferably 7.2. Narangba Timbers can get it in but no doubt it will be expensive...

    Any tips?

    Cheers

A bit more info needed Jonno - what are the maxium spans between supports? Without referring to span tables, if you're looking at a 7m span I think regulations require at least 290x45, it could be more. For 7m with 200x45 I'd have 3 posts at 3m spacing and a 500 overhang on the ends, use 3.6m lengths half lapped and bolted to the centre support.
