which 76mm sandpaper roll for drum sander
Looking for 76mm sandpaper rolls for drum sander. The grits I want are 24, 40, 80, 150, 220 or 240
Options I can find are Sia or Sunmight from sandpaperman
https://www.thesandpaperman.com.au/7...m-sander-roll/
Or Abranet Max
https://www.bestabrasives.com.au/col...nt=45031971850
The Abranet Max is 3x the price of what the Sandpaperman charges - will it last 3x longer? Anyone have experience with Abranet Max? Anyone have experiencce wth sunmight?
If anyone knows of ceramic sandpaper paper roll would love to hear. My (limited) experience between Sia aluminium oxide and ceramic paper is that the ceramic paper lasts significantly longer.
Sandpaperman has 40grit and up, whereas Abranet starts from 80grit. Supermax has their own sandpaper which starts at 24grit but i doubt it will be as good as Sia or Abranet Max. it will also cost more buying precut rolls.

I use the stuff from Sandpaperman and I'm pretty happy with it.

That's a lot of grits to use and a lot of changing over. For myself, I only use 150 grit on the drum sander. Sequence goes; thicknesser/ drum sander (150)/ ROS (240 then 320). Generally serves the purpose with minimal fuss.

I just did some reading and its suggested to go down a grit when finishing with ROS. Burraboy - do you have any problems from going 150 from drum sander to 240 ROS?
I think I will switch to getting 40, 80, 150 but I cant find anything 150 or 160 - only 180. You guys think jumping from 80 to 180 is too high? I wish to finish sanding at around 240 on ROS

I sometimes go back to a 120 on the ROS, but generally the 240 is fine. The longitudinal lines from the drum sander can be persistent and I take most care to get rid of those. Although the DS came with 76mm paper, mine (16/32) will take 100mm and I buy that in 50m rolls at the local toy shop (in Nowra) and can get it in 150 grit.

I've used the abranet on a drum sander - 120grit - and it does seem to last longer BUT if you get a bit careless/tired/distracted and wind the little wheel too much and burn the wood it clogs just like paper and is essentially done, and I doubt it lasts 3 times longer than the stuff from Sandpaper Man.
If drum sanders came with easily swapped replaceable drums various papers might be worthwhile, but as they don't I'm content with 120 in the drum sander and 240 on the ROS (I like the abranet for the ROS)

which 76mm sandpaper roll for drum sander
Hey with sanding rolls if they clogged I soak in a bucket of warm water with a cap full of fabric softener overnight. Then use a stiff brush or copper bbq brush to scrub off the stubborn crud. I find abranet ace is very easy to clean compared to sia cloth backed.
Cheers
Peter

Thanks guys. I ended up getting the Sia in 60, 120 and 180. Dont know if I'll ever use the 180 as I hear it can burn but figured I might as well try
