    Default A Small Saw.

Hi to all you wise people,
Have a small Saw I wood call a Tenon Saw.
Have it apart at this time.
Plate/Blade is 10in. long. Needs a good Sharpening.
    Depth of P/B 1¾in. P/B is Straight.
    Steel Folded Back.
    P/B Teeth 12 PPI.
6holes in the P/B. One is half covered, but only 2 being used.
Rather nice Open Handle, 2 Hole. Inferior Bolts.
Handle look like it belongs, but with all the holes, makes one wonder.

The Tools and Trade History society Home & News suggests that what you have is
"the name [is] a complete fiction, dreamed up in order to widen the apparent range on offer"
TATHs categorise the name as a Type 3 maker.
When was a sawmaker not a sawmaker?

which is no reason to suspect that the saw, once sharpened, will not be a good saw

Daedalus & Co was 2nd quality (one of many such "brands") saw made by Joseth Tyzack & Son Ltd Sheffield, sometime between 1876 and 1924, probably early 20th century.

Here is the saw. Hope it helps with the identification as it wasn't easy to photograph under artificial lighting.
Looks like Heavansabove has got it nailed.

    Hi All,
    Thank you Dallas,
There you go Matt, I was hoping that all the holes could be seen, but as Dallas said, bad lighting.

Looks like you've got material for about 6! (720) handle positions if you move the back or drill it through to use the hole currently part covered.
Innovations are those useful things that, by dint of chance, manage to survive the stupidity and destructive tendencies inherent in human nature.

    Lewis
You may have a bastard child saw there.[emoji41]
That plate may, or may not be the original saw plate, going by the amount of holes in it.
But sharpen it up stick the handle on it and cut some wood.
Is the plate cast or steel?

    Cheers Matt

Somewhere among the stuff I left in storage in Oz, I have a similar sized saw plate (with steel back, but no handle) with a similar number of "extra" holes.
I wonder if the extra holes represent a punch used for more than one style / size of saw
    regards from Alberta, Canada
