Good to see some sanity prevailing. Even after TC's Larry & Yasi a lot of very valuable timber was destroyed simply because there was no practical way of salvaging and processing the fallen resource.
Have to agree, there is a place for specialty niche high value select logging even in old growth FNQ rainforests! The economics of large scale logging operations, greed & poor resource allocation has seen the vast majority of our native timbers go into relatively low value applications (paper products - then rubbish!!!) & destroyed many viable sustainable niche operations along the way.
You just have to cry at the waste in commercial logging operations. Around Cardwell & Kennedy in FNQ the waste in the plantation pine forests is staggering, plus they will prosecute any who attempt to salvage timber they intend to burn!

I saw that story and good on you for posting it Wheelin.
It has taken a long time for the drongos in charge to come, at least partly, to their senses.
My father was in the timber game almost from the time he left school in the 20s. He was a
greenie long before the word was coined and would almost cry at some of the forestry practices
that began to develop in the 60s. He would love to see this if he was still about.
