I was planning on going to the wood show today, but unfortunately last night I was hit with another stomach bug!
Can't go tomorrow either, made other plans for the day.
Oh well, guess I'll have to wait until next year.

Well, only another 365 days to wait until the next wood work show. I am already getting excited, but what happened today...
I walked in the door & there was the BAS 350 for $599 calling me. & I thought it was only Ruffly that heard the voices. So, not knowing anything about Bandsaws, except how to tell them apart from table saws, I went to investigate. The BAS was a nice looking machine but not wanting to make the same mistake I made last year, I wanted to look around a bit longer. I went to Leda & had a look at their 14" which was $350 dearer. Thats a lot of cash so I ask the man to show me why I should pay $350 bucks more for what pretty much looked the same to my well trained eye, ... & he did. I know there are a lot of loving BAS owners out there, & I am not saying there is anything wrong with them, but on closer inspection, they are different & one is more expensive than the other.
My problem was that while I liked the Leda, the BAS has a bigger motor & I kinda think this could be a good thing. Anyway, after much deliberation, I decided to come back next year with more cash & buy a 17"Bandsaw.
I am not as happy as Reg right now, But I think I made the correct choice for ME.
So just for once, I came home with money in my pocket, & I already have $550 towards next years WWS budget. I still bought a couple of things, like an Incra 1000SE for $240 shipped (They didn't have any left), & a set of Brad Point Metric Drills, as all my drills are from my boilermaking days, & finally, I picked up a GMC 24 volt Drill with extra an battery & huge number of assorted bits etc for $99.
I had the pleasure of meeting a few Forum Members, Harry, Neil, Ian (Nice to see you again Ian), Jude (Did I spell that correctly ) & one other bloke who's name eludes me... Sorry Mate, as well as my Sister & Brother inlaw,my Brother & Sister Inlaw & my best mate. Does It get any better... I don't think so.
Hope you had as goodatime as I did.

Good onya Ticky, I also agree the 2 machines are not the same and not comparing apples with apples when looking just at price. But for me I gotta start somewhere & the 350 at the price suits me. I will update one day to a larger one... like my TS, I've only got a contractors jobby which I will also update one day.
You'll love the incra, I got one a couple of months ago & I don't even know where the original gauge is now, don't care either

I am positive you will be happy with your BAS 350, I have read many items on this forum from members that are. I also PM'd a bloke who bought one at last years show & he is rapped with his, & he has given it a serious work out.
I bought a router table at last year's show that up until about 2 months ago, & an extra $200 over & above the nearly $500 purchase price, was a piece of crap. My problem was that I was either stuck with $500 worth of junk or $700 for a good but over priced piece of equipment.
I now feel that if I pay the extra up front, it will save me money in the long term, which is why I have decided to go for the bigger machine, bigger motor, bigger table & better features.
Any one still looking for a 14" bandsaw should have a look at the Woodfast, Also a BAS 350 I Think (But not sure) The woodfast has a much bigger table & is local (SA) at Albert park (I think) near the Port.
Woodfast is not a new company, I have Noha's old 6" Jointer, but I don't know much else about them. As I said, Worth a look if you want local warrantee.

Steve,
So, did you settle on a 17" Leda or a Carbatec bandsaw (the Carbatec SBW-4300CE)?
I see the Leda and the Carbatec 17" are about same price.

Confused. . . I think. . !
Well, we (me and the missus) got to the show on saturday.
Oh - very nice - lots to drool over. And came away with a GIFKINS unit (just the basic job, A10, 2 cutters, boxplans, and dvd). ALSO - came away with a GMC dust collector - after comparing with the basic carbatec the missus reckoned the GMC one was a better deal - same motor size but with carbatec you have to buy the tubing and adapters $eparate, and also she liked the white bottom collector bag better than the carbatec "plastic bag"... ALSO - I got permission to buy a table saw and a 6in jointer... But I need you guys to answer a question for us...
"Ted" of Timbecon (salesman/showman - that guy is good and seriously passionate about what he sells) says the Sherwood MJ2325 is "better" than the TS250 because the steel rig that holds the slider on the MJ is "stronger" than the boom assembly on the TS...
Now I know nowt about that side of things... SO - SERIOUSLY... should I buy the MJ with the steel slider gear or the TS with the boom whatsit...
I'm waiting for your expert opinions befor sending my order off...
(I think I uploaded the piccys. . .)
Thanks guys
Jedo

Personaly wouldnt get neither but grab the TSC10hb, there's ways around the problem of cutting down sheet material.
Its a much more solid saw than those two(and about the best in that kind of price range $1500ish).....................................................................

Thanks Harry. . .
But I don't really see what gains I make with what you suggest. . .
Hell. . . I get a slider with both models I look at. . .
Question is/was do I go with the steel-support slider or the boom whatsit
But thankee very much
