Thread: Adhesive backed sandpaper

Shannon, you don't need to get adhesive backed paper.
Just get a can of spray-on adhesive from a craft store or hardware and use this to stick wet & dry paper to 10mm float glass.

Why go to all that trouble when you can acheive exactly the same result with a stone, plus if you look after it you'll have it will last a 100 years

Shannon I got some adhesive backed sandpaper some time back for a different purpose, but had to get it from LV. Must admit that it is handy to have around.

If your Bunnings is like our Home Depot, there is a spray product 3M 77 that is used to stick Wet or Dry to glass for sharpening. Both the sharpening and the glue work very well.

Well, the theory goes that sandpaper only costs a buck or two per sheet, comes in more grades than you have fingers, and the glass stays dead flat.

Do a google search for 'scary sharp' and you'll get the idea.. There's an article about it in the June Fine Woodworking mag using 3M adhesive backed sandpaper that basicly says it's razor sharp quicker and with less mess...

I sharpen all my blades with sandpaper spray adhered to glass and can get them scary sharp in no time. Strongly recommend looking at that 'scary' web site.

This may only apply to Canada but when I was there a boss bought some spray on adhesive and found it to be useless (very weak bond that isn't ment to last). He made the mistake of not getting the spray on contact cement. I would suspect that bunnings would have it or someplace as large. Someone mentioned a craft store but I would suspect they would be more inclined to sell a product that sewers would use which is the non permanent bond one.

I don't know what they call it in Australia, but here you can get either Hook & Loop paper or PSE for pneumatic sanders. Hook & Loop is velcro backed while PSE is adhesive backed paper. Check your automotive supply shops or woodworking supply houses for that. You can also get adhesive sprays at various crafts supply houses and can make your own
