Need some advice on building a woody vehicle kit
Guys I need some advice on a special project and info has been very hard to come by in Australia so far. I have an EH Holden wagon and I would like to contruct a woody kit similar to a 60 Country Squire (I can provide pics if you want to see what it looks like !) I have a lead on some repro vinyl insert material but I would like to build the surround from real timber. I believe the original & repro pieces are made from fibreglass with a faux timber finish.
The pieces could probably be pine with some precision finger joints & plained to fit the body contours, finished in polyurethane & fixed to the body with 3/8 stainless bolts. The question...
Could this type of work be performed by any reasonably skilled cabinetmaker ? Ideally I'd like to give the work to an old school retired carpenter for that authentic hand made character. Can anyone recommend a shop (Brisbane) that could at least put me on the right track ?
Many thanks

Pine ? radiata pine ? not the best choice , if it is anything like the pinus crap that grows over here. Grows too fast , all sap , no heart .
A glue laminated frame may be ok.
As has been said , The general woodworking forums may turn up a motor body builder.
Good luck , its' a great idea .

Hoop pine would be right for the job
and if you used 1mm or 2mm ply that should form reasonably well
