Advice on Hinges
Currently, I am making a number of large storage chests from 19mm plywood. They are to be used for transporting quite heavy items. Making the boxes is OK but I cannot find suitable hinges to secure the lid, which is again made from 19mm plywood. Strap hinges are of no use as they bend when the lid goes past the 180 degree mark. Searching You Tube etc has not revealed the answer. Has anyone got a bright idea?

So you want the lids to open a full 270 degrees? No chance of having a stop at say 95 degrees?

To help find a solution can you provide an image or good description of lid construction.
Have you considered some sort of stay, even a couple of bits of sash cord?

You'll get 270 degrees out of normal butt/piano hinges if you mount them between the box and lid instead of on the outside.
EDIT: Disregard that, wasn't thinking straight

What are the boxes being used for? I get the feeling the lid needs to be right out of the way, if that's the case, maybe it's better using clips to hold the lid on and can remove the lid as needed.
I cut it twice and it's still to short.

As for the lid not going back to far, fit a stop like a small chain .
What I did for moving for some of my most valuable items when I shifted and needed boxes.
I didn't fit hinges .
I just screwed the lids down with bugle screws. 8 each top. Fitted wooden lifting handles at each end .
I made them from 290 x 19 clear Radiata joined up into widths and lengths to make a number of Large traditional Tool trunk size boxes.

Better and stronger than Plywood, IMHO 🙂Probably a way cheaper material cost too ?
