Default Advice/ideas for WIP project appreciated

    Hi guys,

Had some non structural pine and some old pine pallets lying around so decided to put together a tall table for my garage potentially to use as a sharpening station. The idea was to use handtools only (work being done at night was the major factor) and make it cheap (the total cost of timber was around $5.00).

My thinking was to put it together and finish with a shelf on which to store the waterstones & sharpening jig. See the photographs attached for where I'm currently at (basically finished less the shelf).

Ok my dilema (finally you say !) is I'm think I was to add a drawer to keep my things dust free and need help or ideas on how to proceed. I have plenty of pallet timber still lying around and mdf as well. I was thinking to make it look nice to fill the sidesand attach the drawer to the added sides. As it's already glued & screwed I don't think I can (easily & neatly) add mdf sides. Do i add pine slats to the sides and attach the drawer to that ?
I'm kind of indecisive about how to move forward. I'm new to woodworking but am happy to learn on the job and am open to ideas.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Scott

I'd go with pine slats, let into the inside faces of the legs.
You can cut the joints using a hand saw and chisel with the table on its side.
A drawer front wider than the opening will hide the end of the slats
Depending on the height, you might want to consider two drawers

I did something similar in that I also forgot to consider the draws when building a cabinet for the garage. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f245/g...-draws-167734/

There is a difference in construction and I think Ian makes a good suggestion. For the draw construction you can do anything you want as this is just for the garage. I might suggest to have a couple of thiner draws as to one large one as I think it makes it easier to organise.

One idea you might entertain is the second (lower) draw, just make it a slide with a hole through it, capable of holding a plastic container for quenching water.
