Advice needed on joinery
Hi
Making a bed for the first time ever (king size).
Design will be similar to this : low platform with wide edging.
bedexample.jpeg
To join the side rails I was going to use 38mm thick ash and rebate along the length - that would sit on top of the base (also around 30mm pine) and screw into the ash on top from the back (inside the frame). I don't want to glue as I need to be able to dismantle the bed as much as possible as I move often.
Would this method hold? Would there be a better way?
Thanks

Just screws through pine won’t hold up a 150 to 200 mm wide board straight for long . It’s got a foot under it as well hasn’t it ? Looks like it has . That’ll be the thing that makes it work . Simple drawings is how to get some answers , with some sizes drawn in .

I've attached the drawing of the bed above. "Foot"? Hm, no, maybe a wider piece running the length under it? Is that what you mean?

Yeah . It's supported underneath . Down to the floor . Foot's a good word for it isnt it ?
looks like it will work with no problems. Your rebate over a frame to hide the top edge of the pine . Supported underneath so the screws are just there to hold the Ash up against the pine . Are you going to attach upholstered head boards like that as well ? Make up some wooden attachment to be upholstered ? It'll be nice . A bit low looking maybe for me but nice .

Yes doing two headboards at the back to match the front split in the ash. Thinking I might do that split on all sides, not just the bottom of the bed. I'm making two frames ad upholstering I think at this stage with hemp to keep it all natural looking. Won't staain the ash, just a clear coat of something.
And Im only 5'3" so not too low for me :P

Water based poly is nice . It’s non yellowing and finishes with a lovely flat low sheen .
